The Macon Water Authority engineering and finance committees approved the utility’s first long-term plan for reducing “lost water,” as well as almost $560,000 to kick off the effort.

The authority paid consultant Cavanaugh & Associates about $100,000 to evaluate its water loss efforts and help the utility design a more formal program to reduce those losses, currently estimated at about 16.6 percent.
