Cavanaugh designed this unique underground stormwater retention facility under a new 45-space parking lot behind Town Hall. The structure will collect stormwater from one of the Town’s major drainage basins and allows for storage of the run-off and subsequent leaching into the ground. This system was designed with an overflow outlet to prevent flooding of upstream property in the event of multiple design storm occurrences.

One of the many types of stormwater management controls that Cavanaugh is familiar with is the Cultec system. This heavy-duty polyethylene allows water to seep into the soil below the system so that it will eventually recharge the groundwater. When covered with either soil or pavement, the system increases the amount of land that can be used for other purposes. This system also provides water quality treatment to the initial stormwater run-off.
