Environmentally Superior Technology Agreements
North Carolina Swine Industry
Cavanaugh & Associates, P.A. served as the Project Technical Manager for the Environmentally Superior Technology Demonstration and Evaluation projects. This process was set forth in the voluntary agreements by and between Smithfield Foods Inc., Premium Standard Farms, Frontline Farmers, and the NC Attorney General's office. The agreements called for Smithfield to provide $15 million and Premium Standard to provide $2.5 million for the development of innovative and alternative technologies for the treatment of wastewater generated by swine production facilities in North Carolina. Cavanaugh worked on behalf of North Carolina State University to provide Technical Management of the design, permitting, construction, and operation processes of 14 commercial-scale technology demonstrations. Cavanaugh was responsible for establishing project protocols, permit facilitation, budget and payment request reviews, and managing the on-site construction of each project. Cavanaugh was placed in a leadership role for this historic project because of our proven track record in agricultural engineering, involvement in the North Carolina Agri-industry, and our ability to provide management and oversight for large, multi-faceted engineering projects.
