Simmons assists virginia with new reuse rules

Gus Simmons, PE was appointed to participate in the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) assisting the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) with the development, revision, and adoption of Reclaimed Water Reuse Regulations for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

As Wilmington Branch Manager and Director of Engineering Operations for Cavanaugh & Associates, P.A., Gus has assisted many municipal and private entities with the development and implementation of reclaimed water systems and reuse irrigation systems. Using his practical experiences to educate others, Gus also assists with the Spray Irrigation Design workshop at the North Carolina State University Land Application Training Unit in Raleigh.  Before coming to Cavanaugh, Gus worked for a major agricultural producer where he was the Director of Environmental Affairs and Engineering Services where he managed all of the engineering and construction for facilities in the U.S. and Europe. Gus also designed, permitted, and managed over 3,000 acres of wastewater irrigation in North Carolina, as well as several thousands of acres of wastewater irrigation in the Western United States.

Gus also served on the North Carolina Reclaimed Water Rules Review Committee.  Currently, after more than a year of effort by the Virginia TAC and DEQ Staff, the draft Water Reclamation and Reuse Regulation is complete and has been sent to the Virginia State Water Control Board for review and approval.
