jernigan and manning become leeD accredited professionals

The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) is a coalition of leaders from across the building industry that are working to promote buildings that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work (a.k.a. green buildings). Green building design strives to balance environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, occupant comfort and well-being, and community sensitivity. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ was developed by the USGBC as a way to measure what qualifies as a “green building.” Green design reduces operating costs, enhances building marketability, potentially increases occupant productivity, and helps create a more sustainable community. LEED promotes a whole-building approach by recognizing performance in five key areas: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality.

Will Jernigan, Winston-Salem Engineering, and Lisa Manning, Wilmington Engineering, successfully completed the LEED Professional Accreditation Exam in October 2006 and are now “LEED Accredited Professionals”. As LEED APs, they have the skills and knowledge to participate in the green building design process, to support and encourage integrated design, and to streamline the application and certification process for the projects seeking LEED certification.

Their accreditation benefits our company and clients in the following ways:
Provides eligibility for projects and owners mandating the participation of a LEED Accredited Professional.
Strengthens qualifications when responding to RFPs requiring LEED Accredited Professionals.
Encourages the growth and updating of knowledge and understanding of the LEED certification process.
